For physicians and sites
Information for neurovascular physicians, neurosurgeons, interventional neuroradiologists and centres interested in participating in IUAT.
Who this page is for
This page is for neurovascular physicians, cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, interventional neuroradiologists, MDT leads, research teams and clinical trials units with an interest in IUAT.
The website is currently aimed at professional engagement. IUAT is not yet open for patient recruitment.
What kind of centres are suitable?
IUAT is intended for centres that can deliver both treatment strategies to a high standard and that routinely discuss unruptured aneurysms in a neurovascular MDT.
A suitable centre is likely to have:
- established cerebrovascular neurosurgery
- established interventional neuroradiology or neurointervention
- access to contemporary endovascular aneurysm technologies
- regular neurovascular MDT review
- research governance and trial delivery support
- capacity for follow-up and imaging submission
What participation is likely to involve
Participating centres would be expected to support:
- MDT screening of potentially eligible unruptured anterior circulation aneurysms.
- Dual-clinician equipoise confirmation by a cerebrovascular neurosurgeon and an interventional neuroradiologist.
- Consent and randomisation according to the final protocol and local approvals.
- Treatment delivery according to allocated strategy.
- Follow-up and data entry using pragmatic eCRFs.
- Imaging submission for independent core lab review.
- Adverse event reporting and endpoint documentation.
Why centres should register interest early
Early expressions of interest help the trial team assess feasibility, refine site requirements, plan training, model recruitment and build a credible funding application.
Centres do not need to commit formally at this stage. The goal is to understand capability, volume, equipoise and enthusiasm.
Key questions for interested sites
- Does your centre treat unruptured anterior circulation aneurysms with both clipping and EVT?
- Are relevant cases reviewed in a neurovascular MDT?
- Is there genuine equipoise for some patients between the two strategies?
- What is your approximate annual volume of eligible UIAs?
- Which EVT modalities are routinely available?
- Could your centre support 1–2 randomisations per month once open?
